STANZA I

Let all the earth their voices raise

To sing the choicest psalm of praise,

To sing and bless Jehovah's name:

His glory let the heathens know,

His wonders to the nations show,

And all his saving works proclaim.

The psalm it sets

Watts made this hymn from Psalm 96, "in the language of the New Testament": a paraphrase, not a translation. The line that comes closest to it is marked.

1Sing to the LORD a new song; sing to the LORD, all the earth. 2Sing to the LORD, bless His name; proclaim His salvation day after day. 3Declare His glory among the nations, His wonderful deeds among all peoples. 4For great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised; He is to be feared above all gods. … 9 more verses PSALM 96 · ITS FIRST VERSES · BEREAN STANDARD BIBLE READ PSALM 96
