Unshaken as the sacred hill

Unshaken as the sacred hill,

And firm as mountains be,

Firm as a rock the soul shall rest

That leans, O Lord, on thee.

The psalm it sets

Watts made this hymn from Psalm 125, "in the language of the New Testament": a paraphrase, not a translation. The line that comes closest to it is marked.

1Those who trust in the LORD are like Mount Zion. It cannot be moved; it abides forever. 2As the mountains surround Jerusalem, so the LORD surrounds His people, both now and forevermore. 3For the scepter of the wicked will not rest upon the land allotted to the righteous, so that the righteous will not put forth their hands to injustice. 4Do good, O LORD, to those who are good, and to the upright in heart. … 1 more verses PSALM 125 · ITS FIRST VERSES · BEREAN STANDARD BIBLE READ PSALM 125
