STANZA I
Though sore beset with guilt and fear
Though sore beset with guilt and fear,
I cannot, dare not, quite despair;
If I must perish, would the Lord
Have taught my heart to love his word?
Would he have giv’n me eyes to see
My danger, and my remedy,
Revealed his name, and bid me pray,
Had he resolved to say me nay?
Where Newton found it
Newton printed the hymn under Judges 13:23.
But his wife replied, “If the LORD had intended to kill us, He would not have accepted the burnt offering and the grain offering from our hands, nor would He have shown us all these things or spoken to us this way.” JUDGES 13:23 · BEREAN STANDARD BIBLE READ JUDGES 13
