STANZA I
Israel in ancient days
Israel in ancient days,
Not only had a view
Of Sinai in a blaze,
But learned the gospel too:
The types and figures were a glass
In which they saw the Savior’s face.
Where Cowper found it
Cowper printed the hymn under Hebrews 4:2. The line that comes closest to it is marked.
For we also received the good news just as they did; but the message they heard was of no value to them, since they did not share the faith of those who comprehended it. HEBREWS 4:2 · BEREAN STANDARD BIBLE READ HEBREWS 4
